As The Station Turns 7/15
When I got to work the Manager was in a bad mood, she had been dealing with grouchy customers plus the safe had stopped working after Skippy did something to it. She tried turning it off and on again and it started working. She wanted to know what I had done but it had rebooted on its own. It worked the rest of the night.
I've noticed a car parked on the edge of the lot for a few days but nobody said anything about it. Is it broke down? Is it an auction car they are coming back for? Is it abandon? If it's still there when the Boss comes back he'll have it towed.
Last week the #5 pump wouldn't authorize, it would take cards or prepays but the contact buttons won't engage. I had bagged it out and planned to unbag it at the end of my shift, but I forgot. When I went in it was operating again. Today it was bagged out again, it must be doing the same thing and if the Boss complains I can say I didn't do it. I did put another "Please Pay Inside" note on pump #12 and I left it on today. I'll take it off as I'm leaving tonight. Let someone else deal with that mess.
The day started off slow and I figured I wouldn't have anything to write about. That changed.
I was doing my usual start of the shift stuff which includes an inspection of the counter area. I found the restroom keys behind a tobacco rack. I had to wonder how they got there and who could have left them. It was a good thing I was checking because I needed to do paper later in the day.
A guy's card wouldn't work so he came inside. When I ran it the computer gave me a message, the account had been closed. He needs to check on that and all his other accounts to make sure someone hadn't stole his identity or hacked his accounts.
The Storyteller came in, I didn't really see him when I was working at the Haunted Station, he would come in for the random lottery ticket but that was about it so when I came back across the street I started seeing him a lot more. Before he would talk about his wife but since I've been back he didn't really mention her, I was curious but I wasn't going to ask. Anyhow he mentioned her today, it seems her arthritis has gotten really bad and she's in hospice undergoing intense therapy, and she hates it. He showed me her photo from back in the 70's and the best part is he had a huge head of hair. It explains why he's been coming by more often, nobody is at home but him and his dog.
I had a sudden blackout, there must have been a power surge in the line. The problem was that it knocked several things off, including the pumps. Thankfully nobody was fueling at the time however they wouldn't work for the next customer. I had to go around and hit the reset buttons, clear all the errors off the screen and checking the fuse box. I also had to remember to turn the warmer on the coffee machine and turn on the safe. I don't know if anything else went off but nothing came up by the end of the night, it would be someone else's problem.
When I went out to check the trash I discovered that someone had written something on one of the canopy poles, thankfully I thought it was going to rain today so I brought the Jeep and had my graffiti remover. I went and scrubbed it off and then found a couple of stickers on the side of another poll. As I was peeling them off Skippy came in and caught me at work, which is a good thing.
A guy wanted to know if I'd make change for a $100 bill. Normally I'd tell them no since I don't want people thinking I have a lot of cash in the drawer towards the end of the night. However I had a number of marked bills I wanted to send out so I went ahead and did it.
A guy came in wearing a "Brandon" shirt. I flipped him off when his back was turned and wasn't polite to him. Later I was watching a video about a group of maga who got mad at a guy for singing a song about Epstein's plane. It looked like the same guy. Or perhaps they are all starting to look the same.
The Crazy Lady showed up and she wasn't talking again. I don't know what's going on there and I don't want to know. And I saw Bigfoot. Then I rushed out and went home.
