The Lottery Experiment, May

 Week 19

Since I'm not working at the station that sells lottery anymore I wasn't tempted by any good numbers or the perfect calendar date or someone just bought a lot of losing tickets so this game is going to hit, all the normal pitfalls of gambling. So perhaps I can finally take control of the experiment.

New beginnings. Since I was moved to a different station I am no longer selling myself a ticket, instead I have to buy it from someone else. Thankfully I know the guy and told him about my experiment. I had $9.27 in the Tip Jar so I decided to go with a $5 ticket. I had my choice between four games but which one? I figured I would give the old Lucky Coin a spin and it landed on the one I least wanted but I bought it anyhow. The ticket has a potential jackpot of $5000 and, it was a $10 winner! So to start this month I'm up $5, down overall but still up. Oh, and since Friday is my day off I shifted my buying day too. Maybe next week I'll hit something big.

Week 20

The good news is someone won the Powerball so I won't have to worry about buying one of those for a while. Plus since I'm not at the station that sells the tickets anymore I won't be tempted to buy a Star Wars numbered ticket on May The Fourth.

The new manager of the ticket selling station called me to ask what he should do with games that have been pulled. The problem is I don't know which game it is, the web site doesn't have anything new listed in Games That Have Ended. I guess I'll have to find out on Friday.

On Friday I had $11.95 in the Tip Jar so I could buy a $10 ticket. The station had two $5 tickets left in the display and then they could put out a new $3 game and I was tempted to buy them but I'm really trying to stick to the rules, so instead I bought the game with the potential jackpot of $5000. And lost. And now I wonder what would have happened if I bought the two $5 tickets. I hate gambling.

Week 21

This week I ended up with $5.70 in the Tip Jar so I bought the $5 ticket. It has a possible jackpot of $5000 and, I lost. I had been tempted to buy two $5 tickets because they were the last one in the display and the game is ending but I was trying to stick to the rules. Two more chances this month to come out on top.

Also I asked the people at the station to save me the loser tickets and of course they aren't doing it.

Week 22

Today I have $6.04 in the Tip Jar and have to cover a shift at a lottery selling station. This meant a $5 ticket but I don't know which one I'm going to buy until I get there. The other station had a ticket that wasn't available at my usual spot however for some reason I just wasn't feeling it so instead I went with the second chance ticket that I had bought before. It has a potential payout of $5000 and the second chance on losing tickets is worth a million dollars. And, I won $10. So, I'm $5 less in the hole than I was yesterday.

Also during the day a guy came in and bought several tickets but after I had it all rung out he decided that he didn't want one of them, he hadn't scratched it yet so I gave him a refund. I considered throwing the $3 in the drawer myself and go for the $500 jackpot but I decided to stick to the rules. However I'll never know if it was a winner or not.

Week 23

I almost had an extra $40 in the Tip Jar but I was honest. A guy wanted $70 in gas but he handed me a $50 and two $20's so I asked if he wanted $70 or $90. When he came back for his extra $20 it turned out there were two stuck together, he had handed me $110. If I hadn't said anything I could have pocketed the extra $40 but that is bad Karma.

This week I ended up with $6.36 in the tip jar, however I didn't want to buy another five dollar ticket, even though I have been winning on them. Instead I went to for a new $3 ticket with the potential of a $30,000 payout. And I didn't win anything. I do like the color, it works into a project I'm in the middle of. Perhaps I should stick with the $5 tickets since they have a second chance option.

My May Total

I spent $120 on scratch tickets.

$14 on Powerball tickets.

 Won $94

Found a ticket good for a free $2 ticket

Was tipped a $5 ticket.

Got a $4 lottery tip. (Now that I'm working at a different station there won't be anymore lottery related tips, although I might have to cover a shift at the lottery selling station so we'll see)

I entered 16 Second Chance tickets on line

At the end of the month I am down $25 in the regular lottery experiment.

I also have $180.00 in the Alternate Fund

The Art Project

I spent $20 on tickets.

I got one free ticket

I won $3

I'm down $17 but it's for art so....

So overall I'm down a total of $37 thanks to art.
