The Simpsons, The Christmas Special. In 1989 the Fox Network was attempting to compete with the Big Three, CBS, NBC and ABC, however they only ran original programming on weekends and let the local networks fill in the rest of the time. They decided to take a chance on an a new show, The Simpsons, a spin off from a series of animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show.  However there hadn't been a successful animated sitcom in 15 years so they decided to do a test run with a Christmas Special. On December 17, 1989 The Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire premiered. The gamble paid off and it was the launch of the longest running sitcom in TV history. The plot was pretty straight forward, Christmas is about to roll around and the Simpson's find themselves in a crisis when Homer doesn't get his bonus at work and Marge has to spend her Christmas stash getting rid of Bart's tattoo. Homer takes a job as a mall Santa in hopes of getting some quick cash but finds out that it only...
Cocaine Bear "Based on a true story" Cocaine Bear is on streaming so what the heck, I watched it. I was hoping that it was one of those movies that was so bad I could laugh through it but I didn't. That's probably where I should end my review but I'm not going to. Plot, a guy is tossing bundles of coke out of an airplane but just before he jumps he hits his head and knocks himself out, falls out the door and plunges to his death. A bear finds the drugs, eats them and goes nuts. And then it goes on a killing spree. That's it, that's the plot. The problem with the movie is a lot of stuff is predictable. The bear kills hikers, the drug lord comes looking for his packages, people get shot, the bear kills people and so forth and so on. Seriously, every time they open a door or get in a car or are walking through the woods you know what's going to happen next. I'm still not sure if they were playing this for real or comedy. And it doesn't have anyth...
In which I watch The Simpsons and comment on it. Back in the day, when I was still on Twitter, before muskrat ruined the place, shadowbanned me and then tried to permanently ban my account, I would bing watch old TV shows and "live" tweet them. It started whenI would watch Boy Meets World before going to work and then the movie Empire Records. I started doing movie series, Star Trek was a popular one (I tweeted as if I was watching them for the first time ever though everyone knew I had seen them a dozen times each). Perhaps my most popular tweets were when I watched The Rockford Files and would comment on things that aren't around in the modern world, like 59¢ a gallon gas or driving around without a seat belt on. Anyhow one of the shows I wanted to do was The Simpsons. I figured I could do about four or five episodes a night and get through them in 149 days, or half a year. But like I said, I criticized muskrat and trump a lot and my account was targeted by Twitter so...
Top Gun: Maverick So last year everyone was singing the praises of Top Gun: Maverick but Covid shut down all the theaters within 20 miles of my house and none of them have reopened. Needless to say I wasn't going to drive a hundred miles, yes, the only theater I knew would be open and showing the movie was a 100 miles away, just to see this film. Well now it's streaming on regular subscriptions channels so I figured What The Heck and I watched it.  Ummm....it's OK. I mean with all the action scenes it was probably pretty good in the theaters, as long as you don't have to worry about motion sickness. But store wise it's a bit thin. Basically Maverick has been doing his thing for years and thus everyone in Naval Command hates him. He's on the verge of being forcefully retired when "gasp", some unnamed country has built a nuclear reactor and is about to start processing weapons grade uranium. The Navy decided to send in a group of hot shot pilots in on a ...
4 laugh out loud moments in movies Originally I was going to write about 5 funniest movie moments that made me literally laugh out loud, however I forgot to write them down and can only remember four, so here they are. To start, have you ever been watching a movie when something completely unexpected happens? Something that surprises you to the point that you roar with laughter? Something that hasn't been spoiled by the social media or has so many clones of the original so that the impact has been lost? These are four moments in movies that caught me off guard and really caused a full on, almost choking on it, laugh.  Note: This list is by the year the film was released not by degree of laugh. 1) In 1931 the top stars of Holly...
4/2/23 Today I quit Twitter I didn't completely quit Twitter, I still have an active account but I have no plans on posting there anymore, at least for the foreseeable future. It seems that my account has been targeted and I am at risk of being permanently banned. I don't need that bull dookies so I left. It all began after Musk, heretofore referred to as Muskrat, bought the site. I had spent many a tweet insulting him long before the takeover and I kept doing so. However things started to change, both site wide and with my personal account, despite muskrat's promise to get rid of bots I started to get a lot of unwanted and aggressive replies. I would report them but get a message that the person hadn't broken any of Twitters rules, lie. Then came the selling of the Blue Checkmarks, these accounts were even worse, one posted a pedo photo and when reported Twitter did nothing, clearly buying a checkmark also bought you immunity.  Then came February, I began to realize t...
Five things about The Big Bang Theory that bugs me. Number one, really everything started with a singularity? Wait, I mean the TV show, lets start over.  On Thursday night from 2007 to 2019 the gang on Big Bang Theory became part of our lives. It started off as a When Worlds Collide storyline with hot blond actress Penny living across the hall from uber nerds Leonard and Sheldon. Eventually it morphed into a domestic comedy about three couples and their friend who may or may not be Gay. Although I liked the show there were certain things about it that bugged me, and here are the top 5, in no particular order. 1) Everything. OK not everything about the show but Big Band Theory came out at the height of Nerd Culture so the characters were heavily involved in everything nerd, well most everything. They collected comic books, and action figures. They played all kinds of games from card to table top to video to on line multiplayer. They cosplayed, they LARPed, they were well verse...
