As The Station Turns 10/19

When I got to work it wasn't busy, the Manager had counted down her drawer but I waited for the Late Guy to close his so I could get the register that isn't under the air conditioner vent. While I was logging in a couple of local lowlifes came in, the guy was bleeding from "some kind of wound" and they wanted to know if we'd call an ambulance. The theory is that she stabbed him. The Manager wanted to know what the phone number was to call the ambulance so I said "911?", she didn't punch me. The ambulance showed up along with the EMTs and they stitched the guy up. He could have gone to the emergency room for the same thing. And you know they aren't going to pay the bill. There is an overflow revisor on the fill caps for the big fuel tanks and one of the drivers had dumped diesel in there. The Late Guy, who was working the morning, wanted to go pump it out. He got ready but he got a call from the Boss, the state inspector was at the Haunted Statio...

As The Station Turns 8/18

I walked in to chaos. The Late Guy had a line at his register so I rushed to log in and count in my drawer so he could get out. And it went like that for the next couple of hours. And of course nothing was done. I soon as I got a break I had to clean and stock the restrooms, dump the trash and eventually I bagged 19 bags of ice. And the mop bucket was in the office restroom, why? It hadn't been used, the floors were a mess. The Late Guy is back to being the Late Guy. I guess yesterday he spent the day bossing the Part Time Woman to do the work for him, he's good at that. The thing that makes me laugh is how he constantly complain about how people leave the Haunted Station and he left the Truck Stop exactly like that. I was trying to do the cigarette count but there was a family having a discussion about who was going to pay and were they going to use the card, tap or pay cash. Oh c'mon, I have a break in the traffic and can get my work done quickly but instead I had to stan...

As The Station Turns 10/17

I bought something from Amazon and when I got it the thing broke as I was trying to put it together so I had to send it back. The problem is that I have to send it via UPS which requires a pick up. I don't know when they'd be coming and I didn't know if I would be home when they showed up, so I arranged for a pick up at the Truck Stop which is open 24 hours and someone is always there. I was going to have to leave it first thing in the morning because again, I didn't know when they would be coming. So I got out of bed early and drove up to the station, and the Late Guy is working the morning shift again, and the Part Time Woman was there too. I went in and chatted with the Late Guy and ignored her. The tank alarm was going off again, this time it's a probe that isn't working. I decided to be a nice guy, went to the back and ran off an alarm report and it went off, I'll see if it stayed off when I go in this afternoon. And then I came home for breakfast, and...

As The Station Turns 10/15

Because someone offed themselves I had to go to work early. No, it wasn't anyone who worked at the station, it was someone the Manager knew and she needed to leave for the funeral at 10:30, so I got to work a 12 hour shift. The thing that bothers me is there are three people who could have covered the four hours, two of them have been short because the Haunted Station is closed but nope, I had to go in. Oh well, overtime for me. The Manager told me she had gone by the liquor store to pick up some beer for the weekend. She ran into the Doofus (the guy who was fired for showing up to work drunk). He told her what a great job he had and how much they respected him there. Two things, I heard he was basically working as a janitor, cleaning, doing the outside trash and scrubbing the restrooms. The second thing is he keeps bugging the Boss to get his job back. He was full of crap when he worked at the Truck Stop and he still is. I wonder if his brother, Stinky, is still working at a fast...

As The Station Turns 10/14

When I got to work everything was normal and peaceful. Oh wait, the tank alarm was going off again, and even though you hit the reset it would go off about five minutes later. They keep the door to the office open because the ice machine is in there and the room isn't vented so it overheats and shuts down. I closed the door, screw the ice machine. After an hour I went and hit the "YES, I KNOW, CENSOR IS NOT WORKING, SHUT THE HECK UUUUUUPPPPP!" button and it quit. I guess it needed to cry itself tired. Later in the day a driver made a delivery and I figured "crap, the alarm is going to go off again" but he did something to fix the censor and I didn't have to hear from the thing for the rest of the night.  The Little Debbies guy showed up, he hadn't been there for a while so the rack was mostly empty. There were several bags of outdated mini donuts and yes, I gladly accepted them. They had pumpkin spice and even though they are past their sell by date the...

As The Station Turns 10/12

Today requires a quick recap of the "cluster you-know-what" the stations have turned into thanks to bad management. It starts with the Random Woman putting in her two week notice, however she did it just as the state red-tagged the tanks at the Haunted Station and the place had to close so the Boss told her she could quit immediately and go to whatever job she was starting. The problem was that they didn't hire a new full time person to take her place, they would have had plenty of time to train them for the job but the company decided to save on the salary.  Fast forward a couple of week, the Boss figured the Haunted Station was almost ready to reopen but again he hadn't hire anyone, instead he decided to shuffle around the schedules of everyone else, thus putting us at the razors edge of having people available in case anything happened to anyone. And for some reason I once again got the stupidest of schedules. Originally the Boss wanted me to work Wednesday, Thursd...

As The Station Turns 10/10

I had put my phone on Airplane Mode so if Bigfoot came down "sick" they couldn't call me at the last minute to cover the graveyard shift. When I turned it back on I discovered that Weekend Guy texted me saying that he was still alive. Why did he text me? I wasn't part of the whole "West Side Station being closed" mess. There's nothing like starting off your day angry.  Despite the "New Schedule" the Part Time Woman was at the Truck Stop. When I walked in the building it was the usual, neither her or Mrs Late Guy had closed their drawer. Even more, neither of them was behind the counter, so I was standing there, waiting. They were in the back room talking about the ice machine, it isn't properly draining again. When people started coming up to the counter I called back for them to come wait on their customers, and I still had to wait. Finally Mrs. Late Guy closed her drawer so I could go to work. By the time I got in I had a crowd, if they ...

As The Station Turns 10/08

The weather has been nice so I rode my Bad Hawg (electric trike) to work today. As I was pulling on the lot some big semi was swinging around on the other side of the building so I gunned it to make it past the pumps and to the back side of the building before him, sure enough he turned right to where I was going to go. And then the Manager left a big bag of trash on the handicapped ramp, the ramp I drive up to park my bike next to the building, so I had to get off and pull it up over the curb. My day was off to a great start. Later, about 6 hours later, I realized I left my key in the battery, thankfully nobody stole it.  Sheesh. When I went in the Manager was on the phone and trying to get authorization on a truck card. Thank goodness it was her because I hate those things. so I rushed to count in my drawer so I could open and she could close and not have to deal with anyone else. When she was done she told me that Bigfoot hadn't dumped the trash in the morning because he wasn...

As The Station Turns 10/07

Back to work, weee..... The place was still standing when I got there, it didn't collapse because of my absence. I wonder how many people come back to work and discover that they weren't really missed.  I had to start the day cleaning the counter in front of the register. It looked like someone had been eating there, crumbs everywhere and coffee stains. People are slobs.  I guess the Late Guy has been trying to get the Haunted Station ready and he was upset, someone had left the door between the old restaurant area and the main store open and a bird had gotten in. I guess it was trapped inside for a while and made a mess, tearing open packages and pooping everywhere. And it's gone, the Late Guy is pretty sure there is a snake is in the building and caught the bird. Here's the thing, when the place was closed down I suggested that he check on it every couple of days, and he didn't. Now he has a mess to clean up and it's his own fault.  As far as I know the tank ...

As The Station Turns, Vacation.

10/03 Well, my phone didn't ring. I guess I do have some time off. I went out for a walk and went by the Haunted Station. There seems to be a lack of activity there, and the counter is still covered with register closed slips because the Late Guy ignored what I said and never turned off the printer. I stopped by to see what was up with the Weekend Guy and he has the same lack of information that I have.  10/04 Since I still don't trust the Boss I went and did my weekend stuff this morning I went for a walk this afternoon and it's a good thing I did. First Mrs. Late Guy waved me over to the Truck Stop to tell me there is a new, new schedule. The first new schedule gave me Monday and Tuesday off, Friday at the Haunted Station and the rest of the week at the Truck Stop. Then there was the new schedule, I still had Monday and Tuesday off, then Wednesday and Thursday at the Truck Stop and then the next three days at the Haunted Station.  Today there is a new new schedule. I h...

As The Station Turns 10/01

It was a miserable day, the wind was blowing the rain sideways so I wasn't looking forward to going to work. The first thing I discovered was that one of the trash bags had been pushed into the can. I didn't want to be in the wind and rain trying to dig it out so I just put a new bag on top, but it was about to be sucked back out. I had to run in and get a cup of ice to weigh it down but naturally people showed up and tried to get in my way, they were all pissers so I took care of the trash first. The Pepsi machine stopped working and a crowd showed up. Instead of trying to deal with it I just grabbed a piece of paper and marked it out of order. Later when the place cleared out I discovered that the CO2 tank was empty, this seems to happen quite a bit. I really have to wonder if it's actually happening at the first of my shift or are the rest of the people just ignoring the problem. Anyhow the Manager came back and caught me changing it out which is a good thing.  Some guy...

As The Station Turns 9/30

So all I have to do is get through the day without telling the Boss to go screw himself. Wish me luck. So the Late Guy worked on Tuesday night and I got his drawer. I wouldn't mind but he left me $20 in quarters, unrolled quarters. So I had to count them all and separate them into two piles so I could roll up half. The guy has worked there long enough that he knows where the coin rolls are and he shouldn't leave a drawer like that. What the heck dude? I was told that Mrs. Late Guy is taking the week off. Story to be updated towards the end of the post btw. When I got a chance I checked the restrooms and both of them were out of paper towels. I could understand one but both? It didn't help my bad mood. The Pepsi machine was making a lot of noise and I had to check it out. The problem was that I had a crowd of pissers in the building and couldn't do it. Turns out someone the took the syrup bag out of the box and it was sitting wrong so it had sucked the nipple into the b...
