As The Station Turns 8/18
I walked in to chaos. The Late Guy had a line at his register so I rushed to log in and count in my drawer so he could get out. And it went like that for the next couple of hours. And of course nothing was done. I soon as I got a break I had to clean and stock the restrooms, dump the trash and eventually I bagged 19 bags of ice. And the mop bucket was in the office restroom, why? It hadn't been used, the floors were a mess. The Late Guy is back to being the Late Guy. I guess yesterday he spent the day bossing the Part Time Woman to do the work for him, he's good at that. The thing that makes me laugh is how he constantly complain about how people leave the Haunted Station and he left the Truck Stop exactly like that.
I was trying to do the cigarette count but there was a family having a discussion about who was going to pay and were they going to use the card, tap or pay cash. Oh c'mon, I have a break in the traffic and can get my work done quickly but instead I had to stand there and wait. Sure enough, they finally figured it out and here came another crowd. Sheesh.
A guy left his cane, how do you forget your cane? Anyhow it wasn't some aluminum one he picked up at a supply store, it was a hand carved wooden one. I bet they got a couple of hundred miles down the road and he realized what he did. I put it behind the counter in hopes they call for it.
A guy got a soda from the fountain machine but when he came to pay for it his card was rejected. He said "oh well" and walked out. Yes I flipped him off and made sure he heard me call him an a-hole. I also stopped his pump at 5 gallons. I saw him hop on the internet, I hope he isn't going far considering he has no money on his card.
The place cleared out and I finally had a chance to go do the trash but I didn't even get to the door before a pooper came in to take an extra long time in the restroom. When he finished here came the next swarm. They finally cleared out except once again here came a pooper. He finally finished, I checked the restroom to make sure the toilet wasn't clogged and got the trash done. It only took a couple of hours.
I got the trash done, between customers. The floor swept, between customers, and put the broom away and, business dropped off to nothing. Every time.
I got a large family group, they were traveling in separate cars to give you an idea of the size. They were sitting around talking about how nobody wanted anything. You can do that outside and out of my way you know. After the long discussion they left, without buying anything.
Some truck driver came in and was taking a long time in the restroom. One guy couldn't wait so he asked if I would mind if he went behind the dumpster. I said if I don't see it, I don't care. After someone pounded on the door the driver figured that people were waiting and left.
Someone tried to use the lades room toilet brush to push their poop down in the toilet and then put it back in its holder. It was gross and stinky, and had been that way for two days. I couldn't stand it anymore so I put on some gloves, hauled it outside and hosed it off. I'm sure everyone is going to be extra grateful for that, yeah.
The Storyteller came in and he needed to use the restroom but there was a line, so I let him use the office one, he's pretty much family. When he came out I didn't have any customers so he got to tell me all about his change and a description of the special jars for each type of coin and of course where he keeps his special ones. It made up for yesterday when I was too busy to chat.
The Boss is back and the Big Boss came with him. They also brought a third guy who was inspecting the building, I figure he's the guy who is going to do the remodeling. They asked about the goings on but I don't have any information for them. Usually when the Big Boss comes in he lectures people on not doing their jobs but he never says anything to me. I guess things looked good enough.
The Boss says he's expecting the state inspector to check out the Haunted Station this week and perhaps they can finally reopen. This will mean I'll be going on a new schedule, I don't know if it was the last new schedule or if they came up with a new new schedule. At least I won't have to deal with the Part Time Woman anymore. They finally got done what they needed to do and both of the bosses left.
A guy from Texas came in and wanted to know about buying marijuana. I told him he had to go to a "dispensary" and considering it was after 8 PM I didn't know if they were open. Now that it's illegal in Texas again I figure I'm going to get a lot of that.
Just before the end of the night I got a high school team, I don't know what sport but I'm guessing soccer. Anyhow the coach gave them all fair warning, to buy what they were going to buy and get on the bus because when he was finished in the restroom he was going to drive off and anyone left behind, it was their bad luck. They all hustled so I guess he wasn't kidding. And whatever mess they made in the restroom was going to be the graveyard shift's problem since I was busy the rest of the day.
A guy came up to the register and kept saying strange stuff about what he was purchasing. It took me a minute to figure out he wasn't talking to me but was having a phone conversation via his bluetooth. I hate the modern world.
Since the team had cleaned out their van I was trying to do a quick last minute trash run but a couple of suspicious looking guys came in so I had to go back behind the counter. Thankfully they were in a hurry and I got my work done just before the Graveyard Shift Guy showed up. Naturally the place cleared out right then but it still took him forever to count in his drawer. As I was leaving, and I was in a hurry to get out of there before he saw the restroom, a crowd started to roll in. And I didn't see Bigfoot tonight. I'm dreading going in tomorrow because the bosses will be talking to the Manager which means she'll be in a horrible mood. Maybe she'll be in a hurry and leave right away.
