As The Station Turns 5/14-15
When I tried to log on the second computer someone was already on there. It turns out Skippy is trying to learn the system since the Graveyard Shift has become unreliable and perhaps one night he'll have to run the place. Although I don't see that happening due to his limited English, I can't see him running a truck card. The Big Boss comes around once a month for an inspection and I fully expect a lecture about responsibility.
Thursday was weirdo day. one guy came in and was looking for tamales. I mean what the heck.
A family was holding a reunion in the middle of the parking lot. Cars kept showing up, people kept getting out, there were lots of hugs and so forth. What a strange place to meet up.
The reunion was followed by a large van, I don't know how they got all those people in there but the place filled up and they probably spent $200 on stuff, mostly instant soup. And then they all piled back in the van and the place cleared out.
The West Side Station has been closed while they fix the computer so I wasn't surprised when the mailman came by and dropped off several packages for the Weekend Guy. I called him and he was pissed off, not at the mail though. It turns out something was going on with the Part Time Woman and she didn't show up, so he closed. When he came over for the mail he was raging so I didn't bug him. Later I looked over the Part Time Woman was there so I don't know what time she got there or why she was late.
Some truck driver parked at one of the pumps and came in to use the restroom. A tow truck driver likes that pump so he was waiting but got tired and left. The guy eventually, after a long time, came out and left. Thankfully he left a stink but not a big mess.
I decided to take a restroom break and here came the swarm. After they were done and I did my business I did a store check and someone exploded something all over the microwave. People, if you don't have a lid the least you can do is put a paper towel over it.
A guy in a rental van locked his keys inside. The only number I had for a locksmith is out of date, and it's only a year old. I suggested trying Google, why don't people think of that first? Anyhow a mechanic came in and I asked if he knew anything about popping locks. He talked to the guy but the driver had gotten hold of a locksmith who was on the way. Later I saw a guy opening the door. If the locksmith had come in I would have asked for some cards.
A woman came in and called me Randy. Not my name by the way, but I've been called a lot worse so I don't mind. And if I see her again I won't correct her.
A guy came in looking for the slushie cups but grabbing the wrong ones, they are bar coded for scanning. He still grabbed the wrong cup so I had to go over, get the right cup and scan it. I'd get pissed but nobody ever listens to me so I'm use to it.
A truck driver came in and parked in the middle of the regular pumps, blocking four of them. He went in the restroom and stayed there a long time, other customers couldn't get in. Then he left. I took photos of his truck and left a rather negative comment on his company website.
I went to check the trash, a driver had replaced several tie down straps on his flatbed and instead of carrying the old straps over to the dumpster he tossed them in the trash can. So I had to waste the bag hauling it over to the dumpster. The truck driver could have parked at the dumpster and just tossed them in. Sheesh.
Someone left their credit card wallet behind, I check to see if there was an ID. It turned out to be a Texas AFT Narc, the kind of guy who goes around to shops to see if they are checking ID's. I considered tossing it in the trash for revenge, but I didn't, I put it under the counter for when he comes back.
Skippy came by at the end of the night to make sure someone from the Graveyard Shift showed up. As soon as Stinky rolled in he left. I'm pretty sure the Crazy Lady didn't come in last night.
5/16
I went for a walk and stopped by the West Side Station, I figured the Weekend Guy would have calmed down by today. He told me about an hour before the end of his shift the Part Time Woman called to say she had texted the Boss to say she was taking the day off, but he didn't get back to her. The Weekend Guy was pissed because if she had said something he could have planned, instead he closed down. I told him that she had eventually showed up and he was even more pissed.
And, when he got to work on Thursday morning Skippy came by to check the place out, it seems the Random Woman isn't doing any of the cleaning and he wanted to do an early morning inspection before the Weekend Guy did anything, and Skippy was not happy. I get the feeling when the Big Boss comes for his inspection there are going to be lectures and perhaps some firings.
While at the West Side Station the Truck Stop Manager came by, the printer wasn't working so they didn't have the daily reports. She changed the printer cartridge but it still wasn't working. She asked me what a LAN meant and I told her the computer wasn't connecting to the printer, probably something happened when the fixed it after it crashed. She was going to call the Late Guy since he's now their go to repair guy.
I went by the Haunted Station and the Late Guy was still there, he was waiting for Mrs. Late Guy to come over so he could go to the West Side Station and try to get the printer back on line. Meanwhile his lottery machine was down and he couldn't print tickets. Everything everywhere is crashing. He's also still upset with the Random Woman because she isn't doing anything. I guess they've been going around and around, I fully expect her to quit at the end of the month.
Anymore I'm glad I'm back to being just a peon and not having to deal with all these disasters. Plus with everything going on I look pretty good.
