As The Station Turns 5/28-29
The weather apps (multiple) said the weather was going to be nice all day so I took the electric trike, aka my Hawg, to work. I was going to time myself but I forgot to look when I got to work. No problem, I would check it on the time clock app, except it won't let me log in, says my password is wrong, says my phone number is wrong, says my email is wrong. I think they don't want me using the app anymore. It's a total pain in the ass. Anyhow the Manager really likes my Hawg and now she wants to get one. It would be funny if half of town started buzzing around everywhere on electric bikes.
Two women came in and took their trash, old chicken bones, to the restroom to throw them away. There are 10 trashcans outside plus three dumpsters and they had to bring them in and throw them in the restroom, making the place smell even worse. And of course I got busy so I couldn't go dump the trash can for a while. Every woman who went to the restroom got to enjoy the smell of old chicken.
I was trying to get some stuff done and a trucker came in. He was wandering around the building while chatting on his phone. All I could think was "go outside to talk on the phone" He finally left and the swarm showed up.
All day long people kept picking up the handle and shoving the nozzle in their tank, so I had to hear the pinging on the register letting me know they did it. Seriously, run your card and get the pump going before you pick up the handle, it's annoying.
A trucker came in and wanted to know if we had anything healthy. A Ha! I told him no, even the stuff that pretends to be healthy is really loaded with sugar and preservatives, basically candy bars with fiber. He grabbed some milk.
My neighbor came by. Her son is graduating from high school, no, no way is he that old. Anyhow she told me they were having a full on fish boil on Saturday and I was welcome to come over. I told her thanks but I'll be at work on Saturday afternoon. Is it bad that I said "thank gawd"? I don't think I would know most of those people and would feel like I was intruding. Also the tow truck driver came by and hauled the old van out of my back yard so that's a good thing, she, my neighbor, is going to try to restore it.
Someone called and asked if we shared our parking lot with the motel. I told him there was no motel here. He then asked if we sold beer, dude, you have the wrong place. I hope he found where he was looking for, I figure it was the Conoco on the other side of the interstate.
A guy's total came to $XX.01 I was going to float him the penny and just give him bills back but then he started bitching about prices and saying how he is being robbed and how at "the last place" the prices were oh so reasonable, so he got 99¢ in change. Screw you pal, go back to the last place.
I found a knife. I hope it wasn't used for anything nefarious and I got my finger prints all over it.
There were a lot of painful sounds coming out of the ladies room. I don't want to see what the after effects are. Turns out it was just a girl harassing her sister in the next stall.
Towards the end of the night a guy came in and asked for a brand name vape, however it comes in 29 flavors so just asking without any specifics was red flag number one. So I walked over to the display and asked "which one?" and he then started looking, not a red flag because people like to sample. He finally picked on out and we went back to the register and, red flag number two, I had to ask for his ID. What a surprise, he left it out in his truck and would be "right back". I voided the vape from the register and put it back in the display rack, and he drove off. Nice try pal but you look cuspy so I was going to ask one way or the other.
It was almost shift change and I had done a quck once over on the restrooms, they were ready to go. Then a trucker came running in and, I didn't go check again. If he made a mess it was the Graveyard Shift's problem.
Stinky came in tonight and he smelled so bad that I still had the stench in my nose after I got home. I had to rub some Carmex along the edge to get rid of it. Sheesh.
I had brought my Hawg since the weather reports all said it was going to be clear, so naturally it rained. I had gone out and put a garbage bag over the battery and a plastic bag over the control panel on the handle bars so I had to pull those all off. Then the headlight wouldn't go on but thankfully I have a clip on light I use when walking, so I wasn't totally in the dark. And it didn't rain while I was going home. Later in the night it poured, the weather people were wrong.
5/29
Yesterday the post office dropped a package off for the Weekend Guy at the Truck Stop, usually they leave it at the West Side Station. He was working the Haunted Station but the only time I wasn't busy and could call he was out dumping the trash and wouldn't hear the phone. I figured I could drop by the West Side Station today so I brought it home. In the morning I got up and went to the store, however when I went by the station it was closed. I figured they were having computer problems again so I stopped by the Haunted Station to see the Late Guy. The Weekend Guy called because he saw me pull through the lot and leave, he was still there. After I chatted with the Late Guy I went back and not only did the computer crash but none of the usual tricks were working so the Weekend Guy was closing up and getting ready to go home. If they don't get it up he'll probably end up at the Truck Stop tomorrow.
Also the Late Guy is rearranging everything at the Haunted Station, he's stocking more instant soup, which doesn't sell now, but I'm not going to say anything. Anyhow the Part Time Woman, who only works over there for 5 hours a week, keeps trying to rearrange the shelves the way she wants, I had the same problem. I guess the Late Guy had enough and told her to leave everything where it is. He also wants her to get all her personal stuff out of the back room, that's not going to go over well. And they are still talking about remodeling the whole station, if they do they are going to have to move everything out while they do the work and they'll have to close with only the Late Guy there to keep an eye on everything, and everyone else will have to go somewhere else. They'll send the Random Woman downtown, where she wants to be, and the Part Time Woman to the Truck Stop, where she doesn't want to be. I expect new people by the end of the summer.
Also the Late Guy and the Random Woman still aren't getting along. I'm not going to be the in between, let them fight.
And the State Highway people are starting stuff, I expect them to doing actual work by July, and that's going to be a giant mess. I told the Late Guy when they do start the Boss should change the opening hours to 6 AM since all the workers will be coming in for coffee and such.
I have to take the bike out for another test run and actually time myself. I should go now before it rains again.
