As The Station Turns 5/30
When I walked in the Weekend Guy was there. The Late Guy was trying to get the system up at the West Side Station so the Weekend Guy was covering at the Haunted Station in the morning and then came over to the Truck Stop for the afternoon. Later in the day a real computer repair guy showed up and put in a new screen at the West Side Station and the system is back up, for now. So the Weekend Guy will be back over there tomorrow.
There was an Earth Wanderer at the station next door, he had a bucket on a dolly, you gotta wonder what was in it, he decided to cross the street, into oncoming traffic, he was almost hit by a box truck. I didn't see him again, or an ambulance, so I guess he got a ride north.
The outside trash can filled up so naturally people kept trying to jam more in instead of using any of the other 9 cans on the lot. I decided to run out and dump it but that's when the tag teamers showed up. I often talk about it but today I decided to keep track:
First was the family jamming more trash in the can.
Then a family group group showed up and came in, one at a time.
The family left but there was a woman who looked passed out behind the wheel so I had to wait to see if she would do something. She finally came in, asked the prices of several items, bought some slushies and and $7 in gas.
Then a carload of pissers showed up.
Then a comparison shopper.
Then a local guy who is hooked on suckers.
Then a van load of people showed up, and jammed more trash in the full trash can
Then another car load of pissers
A comparison shopper came in, bought something, went outside, got gas, came back in and went to the restroom. I timed him, 10 minutes, nobody was there and I could have done the trash but I had to wait for him to come out of the restroom. He finally left and
Another van load of people showed up
Then the Mexican Bus
Then another family group.
Then the Late Guy showed up to tell me about fixing the computer at the West Side Station, and all the problems he's having at the Haunted Station (bwa ha ha ha ha)
Then a woman pulled up to the pump and appeared to be having an intense phone call. I had to wait to see what she was going to do. She finished her call and left. Why do people park at fuel pumps when they aren't getting gas?
Then another group of pissers
Then a guy in a work truck pulled up to the diesel pump and came in to use the restroom. He went out and sure enough his fleet card wouldn't work at the pump, he tried it four times to be sure. So I had to turn the pump on and run his card inside.
Then some old timers came in, one at a time and they always take a long time in the restroom.
Then some people pulled up to the pump, were having a serious argument with flailing arms, and left, only to pull into the station next door.
The place finally cleared out and I almost got to the door when the phone started ringing and when I got to it the person hung up.
Another pisser showed up
Four hours later the place cleared out and I ran and did the trash. The tag teamers came back but I didn't care.
A woman came in and was worried about a cat. I told her the place was swarming with feral cats. She then told me how her cat was killed in the street, I didn't need to hear that.
The Boss is back. He asked me how things are going and I said fine. He wanted to know if it had been busy and I told him it had been steady all day. He asked me what the Manager was up to and I told him I didn't know. He asked if the gravel trucks that were parked next door were fueling up at the station and I told him I didn't know. He wanted to know what I did know and I said "everything that happens between 2 PM and 10 PM." He needed to go across the street but he didn't want to deal with the Random Woman, there is a lot of tension over there these days.
He also told me the mother of the Downtown Manager had died. I know it's selfish but I hope nobody asks me to cover a shift on Tuesday, I need a day off. Perhaps I have an appointment I can't get out of at the last minute.
Just before the end of my shift some guy locked his keys in his car, at a pump of course. He said he was calling a friend to bring him his spare set but it would probably be a half hour or more. I told him it was no problem. Later he came in and was trying to explain it to Stinky, who didn't understand. I quickly clocked out and left before I got drug into that discussion.
btw, still taking my electric bike to work. I scared the heck out of some animal on my way home because the thing is silent.
Also my neighbor had invited me to her son's graduation party but I had to go to work (thank Durel) and it was suppose to start at 4. When I got home at 10 it was still raging. When I woke up this morning there were several cars still parked on the street so it must have been fun.
