As The Station Turns 7/06

Monday can be a dangerous day because I never know what kind of mood the Manager is in. My basic rule is if she doesn't say anything I don't talk to her. But thankfully she was in a hurry and rushed out. That's a good start to the day.

Since I work a half shift with Mrs. Late Guy I took advantage of it and asked her about the visit from the police, sure enough it was a subpoena to testify about the shoplifter/car thief. She said he showed up on Friday when the place was crowded and she was kind of embarrassed. She has to call in to find out if she has to appear in person or are they going to do it over the internet. All she has to do is say the guy came in, she didn't really see his face, he stole antifreeze and ran out. I told her that since they had him on video and he was wanted on a whole series of charges elsewhere they'd probably cut a deal since he won't be serving any time in New Mexico, he'll be sent to Colorado where he has several federal warrants.

The Late Guy was still at work after shift change time so I wondered who was working, you never know anymore. Later the Boss told me it was the Random Woman, she must have been late. She keeps talking about quitting but she's still working there.

A guy who works at the Sonic came in, he is the Late Guy's sister's baby daddy, and kind of a bum. Anyhow he was complaining about his job since they've been watching him closely. He claims he left the back door to the building open and someone came in and stole money, completely unseen. Yeah, I believe him....

A guy came in with a matching outfit, shorts, shirt and even the hat, covered in a rubber ducky print. I wanted to ask him if his mommy had dressed him that day. The funny part was he was with a construction crew.

The road was full of cars, all the people who got Monday off for the holiday. A truck started to pull out across the street and almost hit an oncoming car. Look both ways people.

A guy in a tartan skirt came in. He must have just started embracing his true self because he acted very awkward and his mother was very nervous. I gave him one of those "you're cool by me dude" smiles.

A family came in and got the kids slushies. However they got the coffee ones. That's not chocolate mom, but have a fun road trip.

I was busy all day, at most times there were cars all over the place and a line at the restroom. The funny part was across the street they were dead most of the day. The Late Guy was boasting about how much more they've been taking in since he took over but I see what's really going on.

The place cleared out so Mrs. Late Guy tried to rush back and check the restrooms, and sure enough there was a swarm. I guess someone really stank the place up. I'm glad I didn't have to check them and didn't have to clean up the first mess. I would have to give them a good going over two more times during the day.

A woman called to look for someone who could check her oil and do a quick servicing of her car. I gave her the number for an emergency mechanic. She then told me her son had been accused of human trafficking and she had to get on the road right away. I hadn't asked, she just volunteered the information. Afterwords I wondered if she was going to bail him out or was driving the get away car before the cops showed up to arrest him. I should check the police report.

The first time I went to check the restroom I discovered a clogged toilet so I rushed to plunge it. I got it flowing but wanted to do one more flush, however just then I got a rush of tag teamers. Oh well, I was going to have to wait to see if it was completely cleared or was I going to have to hit it with the plunger again. Later when the place cleared out I went to check, I guess I got the whole clog.

Frankie The Cop came by to get a vape however he got a call and had to leave right away. No stories about criminals tonight.

A guy wandered around the store and then came up to the counter. He said "I was looking for my favorite cookie" but didn't offer any suggestion to what that could be. It was near the end of my shift and there was a line so I didn't ask. Seriously, he could have told me but I guess he didn't want them that bad.

The Storyteller had come by earlier in the night for coffee and snacks. The Boss was there and gave the guy a free cup of coffee. Later he came back to get his son some chips, he was on his way to Subway to pick up a sandwich. The son works the night desk at a nearby hotel and the Storyteller likes to hang out in the lobby and watch TV.

The Graveyard Shift Guy came in first and by the time he counted in his drawer and I mostly got out of mine the Crazy Lady had shown up. I got to rush out the door and avoid her completely. She's like the Manager, always in a bad mood on Monday. Thankfully I don't have to go in today.
