The Lottery Experiment, June
Week 24
Through a strange twist I ended up with $14.09 in the Tip Jar. I could have bought a $10 ticket but I decided to go with another $5 Second Chance ticket. I didn't win so now it's time to enter it on line and hope I win the $25,000 jackpot. Wish me luck.
Week 25
I was tempted to buy a ticket on 6/6, possibly the Lots Of Cash since it is game #666. However there was a last minute firing where I work and I ended up having to cover the Graveyard Shift. I slept in today and by the time I got up an employee that I don't like was probably covering the shift where I buy lottery tickets so I figured that was the Fates way of telling me to not waste my money. I'm still tempted to buy a ticket on 6/26/26 but that's a couple of weeks away and who knows what will be going on then.
It was a good week, I ended up with $24.46 in the Tip Jar. The place I go has a $20 ticket but do I want to lose that much money at one time? I decided no so instead I went for a new $2 ticket. The jackpot is $5000 and I, well lost. But I'm not down the $20.
Week 26
When I was working at the station that sold tickets I started following the state lottery on Facebook, that way I could see which tickets hit on the big jackpot and I knew the games that were close to being pulled so I wouldn't order a new pack. I still follow them and they hold the occasional "answer a question" contest. This week's question was "what are your summer plans?" and I said "win the Powerball". Well they liked that and I won a prize package, a lottery t shirt, fanny pack, tote bag, cold storage bag and a travel cup. I could do an internet search to figure out what the average cost would be and include those in my total winnings but instead I'm just gonna brag, I won the lottery!
The guy who is running the place where I buy tickets has been bugging me, pretty much insulting me by telling me how much better things are since he took over. I don't think he means to but insulting but it gets on my nerves. So this week I went a day early on Thursday and bough my ticket from another employee. Since I've been buying low cost ticket, and people have been extra careless with their money I ended up with $40.03 in the Tip Jar. I could buy the high end $20 ticket but I don't want to lose that much all at once so I rolled $30 into the Alternative Fund and bought $2 ticket instead. The game has a potential jackpot of $7000 but I didn't win anything. Oh well, I didn't lose $20 again this week. We'll see how things are going next week with the Powerball and the magical date.
Week 27
This week I ended up with $15.02 in the Tip Jar. I've been buying low end tickets so it's been adding up. Last week I was tying to avoid someone so I went to the station where I buy tickets on Thursday because it was the bragging guy's day off. This week I had to go on Friday because it is 6/26/26 and I was going to buy a Powerball. I know, numbers are just human construct to keep track of the stuff we carry in our pockets and a date on a calendar has no effect upon anything, but I'm doing this for fun. Plus if you buy $6 worth of Powerball tickets you get a bonus slip. You enter the bonus slip on the lottery website and are entered for a chance to win a million dollars. The Powerball is $2 a ticket so I bought three, tonight I have the chance to win $348 million and the potential chance to win a million during the drawing. I also went ahead and bought a new $1 scratcher with a potential jackpot of $1000. Without knowing it I bought the first ticket out of the pack, #000, I hadn't planned on that but there it was. I didn't win by the way.
I checked my Powerball ticket and, I matched one number, out of 18 numbers. And it wasn't the Powerball, just a regular number. Oh well, it's for science. Wait, I'd better check the date on the ticket. Holy crap, the numbers on the website were for Thursday's drawing and the date on my ticket is for tomorrow night's drawing. Man, can you imagine throwing $300 million in the trash?
Well, I could have saved myself the trouble of pulling the ticket back out of the trash. Thee sets of numbers, didn't match a single one. Once again I'm ending a month down.
