As The Station Turns 11/03
I was laying in bed playing Angry Birds when a message popped up from the Late Guy "call me as soon as you can". I wasn't doing very good at the game so I got up, tracked down my phone, which is in my word bag, and called him. It turns out he's caught whatever bug is going around town and he wanted me to come in early, but only an hour. No problem. So I stayed up and got ready for work.
When I got to work the Late Guy was rushing to get out of his drawer so I just counted in his and didn't have to deal with the Part Time Woman's BS drawer at all, it's still in the safe for the people who will be working the next two days.
The mens room is still down but the plumbers were there doing some hard core work out back. Eventually they came in and did multiple flush tests and the thing was working. They didn't tell me what had happened but the pissers are happy.
The lottery machine is down and won't reboot. Later someone came in and said he had been to several places and others weren't working so it must have been a system wide problem. Some woman really wanted a ticket for the Mega Millions and was pissed off. At least she rushed out and I didn't have to hear about how I ruined her life.
So the last time I was at the Haunted Station I found out I was still able to get into the Manager Mode to change prices and add stuff that isn't scanning. One of the things I put into the system was some new cigarettes, today I saw that two packs had sold and nobody said anything about them so I'm still getting away with it. And today I added several items that weren't scanning, I don't want to be responsible for this stuff but what choice do I have? I also need to check the price on one item because I'm pretty sure it's too low but I didn't have my iPad so I'll see what they are selling for at the Truck Stop, but I might buy up the stock before I put in the new price, he he he.
The price of a gallon of gas had dropped 10¢ but since it's Election Day I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow. Perhaps you know who will throw a giant temper tantrum and the price will spike tomorrow so I pulled around and filled up. I just got done when someone walked into the station. I rushed to lock my gas cap, which never works right, and then went inside, and that's when the crowd showed up. So, for the next hour my car was parked at the pump. The place finally cleared out and I pulled back to my usual spot. I should park at the pump that is running slow because it does seem to attract customer.
Last week one of the flavors on the slushie machine was almost empty and "I do everything" Late Guy had left it, so I filled it up. It takes a whole 10 minutes from mixing to cleaning the mix jug. Well, today I went in and the other flavor was almost empty. For someone who does "everything" he sure is good at not seeing things that need to be done. And, it's not like I sold a bunch and the machine got drained down, it had probably been that way for a while.
As I was doing the slushie machine I saw the message on the display that said the filter needed to be cleaned, you need to do it every 30 days. This was saying it hadn't been done in 5 months! I pulled it off, metal filter by the way, and took it to the utility sink to hose it off. The amount of dirt that came out of it! I'm surprised the thing was still working and didn't overheat. Again, a 10 minute job that the Late Guy seems very capable of ignoring. And then I reset the the timer.
The plumbers had tracked up the floor so I needed to do a good mopping. I considered putting it off until closing time but it was slow so I figured what the heck. I know what happens so I mopped behind the counter first, and here they came. The swarm finally cleared out. I did the area around the beverage machines and here came Skippy, he caught me doing actual work. He tends to wander around the station so I waited again. He left, the next swarm came and left and then I finished mopping the floor. But HA! nobody tracked up the wet spots.
Crap, I wrote on my notes "A guy told me" and then I got busy and never wrote down the key word to spark my memory, and I have no idea what it was. It must not have been too crazy. Maybe that was the guy who told me about the other lottery machines being down. Oh well, it's lost to the ages.
The place was empty so I closed a few minutes early and counted down my drawer. I almost forgot to drain the coffee pot and turn it off. I almost forgot to clock out. I did remember to lock the front door, I almost forgot to close the curtain on the window on the west side of the building (someone would get pissed that it was open and break the roller so I couldn't open it again) and I remembered to grab my bill checker pen. Oh, and there is an analog clock hanging on the wall, on Sunday I "fell" it back but just to be evil as I was leaving I "sprang" it forward so it has the wrong time on it and bugs the Wednesday/Thursday people.
So how is the weather here these days? My windshield was trying to freeze over. And of course someone pulled in as I was leaving, too bad, go across the street. And I won't be back to the Haunted Station until Sunday.
