As The Station Turns 11/04

The Manager must have a lot of pent up energy. She defrosted the chest freezer today and insisted on doing the outside trashes before she left. I told her she didn't have to worry about it. She's saving aluminum cans for one of her grandchildren so she digs them out of the trash can.

The Manager said that she got her delivery today, as the guy was unloading the truck another driver came around the corner and ran over his ramp. I guess it didn't damage it bad enough that it couldn't roll it back into the trailer but the company was going to have to get it repaired. And the other driver was in a hurry because he needed the restroom.

The Manager also said she found a dead cat on the back of the building. She went inside and got the shovel and threw it in the dumpster. As she was doing it one of the crows got a beak full of water and spit on her. I said it was mad that she had tossed its meal.

I looked out and the Late Guy was across the street, today is his day off and yesterday he was sick. I wondered if he was taking care of something business related but he was still there after the Dyslexic Woman left. Then I remembered, the Weekend Guy mentioned that he had to go to jury duty, I guess he got selected and the Late Guy had to cover the shift. He was gone before closing time, I didn't see if the Weekend Guy had shown up later in the day. We'll see who is there tomorrow.

I was taking care of some of the shift opening stuff when an Earth Wanderer came in. I had to keep a close eye on him, I don't want to be mean but certain people aren't tied down to places so they can disappear when they get in trouble. One time one of them turned out to be a car thief who was wanted for assault in Colorado.

On Saturday the feed pipe from the hot chocolate powder hopper to the mixer fell off and nobody had checked it, there was a mess inside the machine. I pulled the pipe out of the mixer and put it back on the hopper, but I left where the powder had spilled out. I checked it today and nobody had cleaned it at all. I had to rinse the machine and chip off where the powder had gotten wet and hardened. I laugh when people at work complain that they do everything and nobody else does anything. I save my complaints for the internet.

A driver said the building looked bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. I managed to not make any Doctor Who jokes.

A guy came inside and threw a big bag of trash into the can by the counter. He walked by four large trash cans outside and could clearly see the dumpsters. Before he left I made sure he saw me take the inside trash can out and dumped it into the dumpster.

Some guy told me he was coming from Alabama, he was asking about motels because he heard it was snowing in Colorado and didn't want to get caught in a white out. I didn't tell him that you need to have a raging blizzard for that to happen and the most he was going to run into was chunky rain. He had been driving all day so it was probably a good thing that he was taking a break.

I decided to check the weather to see what the Alabama guy was talking about, just rain in Colorado. It also said there was a chance of rain towards the end of the night so I figured I had better run out and check the trashes before it hit. What a surprised, I got swarmed. When I finally got out a truck driver slowly came wandering over so I had to go back inside. He slowly wandered around the store, slowly paid for his stuff and slowly left. Finally I got a chance but I didn't have to change them, nobody was throwing anything away tonight.

The time change has been knocking me off so I needed a boost to get through the end of the day. I decided to get a Pepsi but the fountain machine was making a weird noise. When I checked I found the CO2 tank was red lining. I could have ran in the back and replaced it but there's been multiple times I've come in and had to do it mid shift because nobody else had done the job. I considered putting an out of order sign on it but I hadn't seen Skippy all day and he would have asked questions, so I hoped for the best, or figured I would get stuck changing out the tank after all. Nobody used the soda machine for the rest of the night. Yes, I'm evil sometimes. And I never saw Skippy.

A truck driver came in with a fuel card. It went through the first time and he didn't forget to give me crucial numbers. I should have gone and bought a lottery ticket.

It was the end of the night and I had a chance to do one more side job, except for the two women who were checking out everything in the store. They paid for their stuff, and so did the other two people who showed up, and then the Crazy Lady came in. Whatever I didn't get done was her problem now.
